James Baldwin Tribute

As part of WBAI’s Fund Drive, on May 10th we aired a 2-hour special tribute to one of our heroes, gay African-American author and playwright James Baldwin, including

 - An original interview by Naomi Brussel and John Riley with Baldwin Biographer David Leeming, who worked for Baldwin in Istanbul as well as New York and whose friendship with Baldwin spanned many of the years Baldwin was in France up to the day he died.

- A rare 16 minute recording of Baldwin reading his famed work, “Giovanni’s Room”

- And excerpts from “Price of the Ticket”, a documentary by California Newsreel.
